Nintendo’s president Tatsumi Kimishima claimed in the interview with Japanese media Kyoto NP that the company aims to produce two or three mobile games every year, starting in 2017. This is due to the high popularity of Super Mario Run, which was launched two weeks ago. Nintendo plans to release Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing for iPhone, as well as Super Mario Run for Android during the next year.
Super Mario Run is the company’s first step in mobile gaming after Miitomo social networking app was released at the end of March 2016. For now the game is only available on iOS and can be downloaded for free. The price of the full version is $9.99. The number of Super Mario Run downloads have exceeded 40 million, but Tatsumi Kimishima wants to achieve the 100 million mark.
Nintendo president discusses the issue of preferred model of mobile games monetization with investors. The stakeholders are interested in offering players to buy additional bonuses that will stimulate spending thousands of dollars on the game. Tatsumi Kimishima announced his interest in increasing the profits of this business segment, however, the monetization model for each new game must be selected individually.
