According to AndroidPolice, the updated code in the new alpha of Google Assistant suggests that it will become possible to install smart assistant to older Android devices in the future. At the moment, Google Assistant is only available on Pixel and Pixel XL. Previously, it was rumored that Nexus 6, Nexus 5X and new LG’s flagship, G6, users would also sport AI assistant from Google.
It is too early to discuss official release of updated Google Assistant, as a number of bugs were discovered during alpha testing. However, some users have already downloaded smart assistant welcome page in older devices, which worked not entirely correct. To open Google Assistant, it was necessary to hold home button, as well as for Google Now or assistant on Pixel.
Google may share plans for larger assistant rollout at MWC in late February or at annual conference Google I/O for developers, which will be held on May 17, 2017.
